Meet the fundraising department

Gill

Gill:
I am married with two children and started working for St Peter & St James in June 2007. As Head of Fundraising, I have overall responsibility for the department and particularly deal with Corporate Fundraising and Legacies. I have the most amazing team who are just as enthusiastic as me and together we try our very best to raise enough money to keep St Peter & St James providing their excellent care, love and support.

It is an honour to work here. Every day I see or hear something that makes me appreciate just how important the work we do here is to the people we care for.

If you asked someone to describe me I hope they might say that I am passionate, loyal and enthusiastic (as well as loud! Ouch!!)

I have been involved with charities for over 20 years and also have had personal experience of how a Hospice helps those in need. Now being involved with St Peter & St James makes me happy that I am doing a job I love and enables me to help give something back to this wonderful organisation.

In my spare (!) time I enjoy judging dressage, reading and going out!

Jo

Jo:
I am married with 2 children and have been with the Hospice for nearly 4 years. My role in the Fundraising Department is Fundraising Administrator. My main duties are to log and deal with the donations that come into the Hospice and to update and manage our database Raisers' Edge. However, I am increasingly being involved in fundraising activities and this year will be responsible for Mid Summer Nights Dream, Christmas Card Sales, Partners In Care administration and take an active part in assisting the other members of the team in other events such as the Sleep Walk. My main "hobby" if you can call it that is studying for my Law Degree with the Open University. I also take an active interest in the PTA for my son's school and of course in between all of that I try to include some quality family time.

Kerensa

Kerensa:
I'm married and live in Lewes and have been with the Hospice for three years this July. I'm responsible for raising funds from trusts, lottery and statutory bodies.

This involves lots of research and writing targeted proposals about specific projects or aspects of our service provision to meet funders' requirements.

In my free time I love to practise yoga and meditation. I also enjoy gardening, volunteering for Cruse Bereavement Care and running on the Downs.

Carol

Carol:
I am married with two teenage lads and joined the Hospice in May of last year. My role within the Fundraising Team is Community Fundraiser which means I liaise with the community groups. I work with our local Support Groups who tirelessly work raising money on our behalf. I also go out to and work with organisations such as schools, sports and clubs such as bowls, golf and cricket clubs.

I really enjoy the community involvement, meeting new people and encouraging more support, profile raising and awareness of the Hospice out there in the wider community. Outside of work I sing in a choir in Brighton and love nothing more than to garden, read or go for a walk.

Pauline

Pauline:
I have been with the hospice for 5 months, after working for the NHS for ten years. I took voluntary redundancy and was then in the fortunate position to be able to seek a part-time post. I have settled in really well to the credit of my colleagues, who have all made me feel very welcome. My main task is to ensure that every penny that arrives in the Fundraising Office is acknowledged by letter, certificate or receipt, plus assisting Jo with Banking. I have also become involved in the fundraising events, which I am really enjoying.

On a personal note, now that I have some more leisure time I am hoping to be able to improve on my golf game!

Hayley

Hayley:
I joined in March of this year and am the Hospices Marketing and Events Fundraiser. Along with the team I organise our central events, plus all our marketing including the website. During my time at The University of Wales Institute Cardiff where I studied Business Information Systems I worked at Monsoon/Accessorize; from here I made a rather large leap to direct mail which then lead me into my love of charity work and to St Peter & St James Hospice.

I am a poker dealer a couple of nights a week and love nothing more then to give the boys a run for their money. I can't sit still for long (as my colleagues will tell you) and am up for anything that keeps me busy!
