Welcome to Our Volunteer Department.
St Peter & James Hospice & Continuing Care Centre is remarkable in so many ways and there is no exception where volunteers are concerned.
Many, many tasks are carried out by volunteers and we rely heavily upon this tremendous support. Some tasks involve working with patients and others are connected with maintenance and administrative work.
For example we have volunteers who come in to take coffee and tea to the continuing care patients or help in the Day Centre, or become Befrienders, whilst others help with bed making and laundry.
We also have volunteers who come in regularly to arrange donated flowers and water all the indoor plants. We have a team of volunteers who tend the extensive gardens around the buildings. All these people perform a fantastic job and the gardens and flowers always look lovely and provide great pleasure for patients and visitors.
There are volunteer drivers who collect patients and bring them into the Day Centre in the mornings and then take them home mid afternoon and also take patients to appointments for example at hospitals or dentists.
We have volunteer Receptionists who provide cover during the day, early evenings and at weekends and others who provide support with administrative work in the offices.
Of course we also have many volunteers who help to fundraise which is absolutely essential! Some help by working in our shops and others join fundraising groups.
Not only do the volunteer activities save the Hospice a great deal of money, but they also provide a great deal of friendship and support for patients and staff alike and add to the great feeling of family that exists.
Of course, although we have many wonderful volunteers who support us, we always need more! So, if you have a couple of hours a week or month free, don't delay, call into the Hospice or telephone Therese Wilson, the Volunteer Services Co-ordinator now on 01444 471598!
One thing you can be sure of is a warm welcome.
